Et in Arcadia Ego

Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002 - 11:38 a.m.

I have come to the conclusion that my family is completely useless. Genealogically speaking at any rate, the jury is still out on the rest. ;-) I started tracing the family tree a couple of years ago - just my fathers side though because my Uncle Del (the one member of the family I don't see enough of) has been tracing my mom's side for years so my involvement in that would be a tad redundant.

I'm finding one little problem though. NOBODY KNOWS ANYTHING!! Gah!! I've got bloody inconsist facts all over the place. I've a name shift that no one can nail down for me - could have happened when my great-grandfather came over from Wales but then again it might have been his sons that changed the name. I've got a grave marker that could be the great-grandfather - if the year of death weren't 2 years before he was hospitalized for typhoid fever. WTF?? My father apparently has a will around here that could answer some questions for me - can he find it? Of course not. He also knows of a relative that could fill in some blanks for me. *He* knows her - she wouldn't know me from Adam. Do you think he could give he a call, invite her down or something...*anything*?? "Yeah, I'll do that one of these days." The woman is almost 90! Before she's dead would be a good time...

This is the single most frustrating endeavor I've ever tried but I've already put so much time and effort into it, it seems stupid to stop now just because my family are all idiots. I've already tracked down a relation in the states that my father didn't know he had. His name's Larry and he's a doctor at a cancer center in Maryland - my second cousin once removed. He and I have filled in holes on the Gill part of the family tree. At least someone is being helpful here. *g*

I don't suppose anyone knows where the surname Higgerson originates from, huh? ;)

ok, I'm going back to this stuff now. Myabe next time I'll tell you all about how my not going to the Orillia Santa Claus parade ties into a question about what God is....
